Katherine Rivas Fuentes is a Venezuelan flutist with an outstanding trajectory in the world of music. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance with distinction from the Royal Schools of Music, and a Bachelor’s degree with distinction and publication mention from UNEARTE (National Experimental University of the Arts).
Throughout her career, she has received two Latin Grammy nominations: one as principal flute in the CD “Fiesta” with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela conducted by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel in 2009, and another as Associate Principal Flute and Piccolo of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra in Mexico, with the CD “Mariachitlan”.
Rivas has been part of significant orchestras and musical groups, from the National System of Children and Youth Orchestras of Venezuela, including the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Gustavo Dudamel (2005-2016), to the Jalisco Philharmonic in Mexico (2016-2021). She has had the privilege of performing in prestigious concert halls worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Santa Cecilia di Roma, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic.
She has also participated in music festivals such as the Bonn Beethovenfest, Lucerne Festival, BBC Proms in the UK, and the Edinburgh Festival, as well as the Mahler Festival with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, culminating with the recording of a DVD as principal flutist in
Mahler’s 8th Symphony.
