On Friday, July 19, The Nucleus Orchestral Program held its highly anticipated Summer Gala Concert at the Tohopekaliga High School Auditorium, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. Under the baton of Maestro Benito Liendo, more than 180 Venezuelan children and youth musicians took the stage for an unforgettable evening of music, talent, and emotion.
The event drew over 800 audience members, who filled the auditorium with energy, enthusiasm, and standing ovations throughout the night.
Inspired by the world-renowned El Sistema orchestral model, the concert showcased the transformative power of music as a tool for social inclusion, discipline, and hope. The program featured outstanding performances by the Wattaka Choir from Tampa, the Nucleus Adult Choir, and a vibrant and diverse artistic repertoire.
Highlights of the evening included powerful symphonic-choral works such as selections from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Handel’s majestic Hallelujah chorus, as well as a delightful medley of Disney songs that captured the imagination of both children and adults.
One of the most moving moments was the piano performance of a piece by Frédéric Chopin, interpreted by young talent Lenon Montilla, followed by an emotional rendition of the Ecuadorian classic Nuestro Juramento by soloist Nelson Dueñas.
The evening also featured a special appearance by world salsa champion Giovanna Gómez, winner of the Puerto Rico World Salsa Congress, and a guest performance by renowned artist Lilu Pink Vilera.
This concert not only celebrated the artistic excellence of young musicians, but also highlighted the social and human impact of The Nucleus Orchestral Program, a growing initiative that continues to shine as a beacon of opportunity and transformation in the communities of Orlando and Houston.
A truly memorable night where music, culture, and hope took center stage
